Abstract:

The purpose of the article is to reveal those critical principles by which Brentano was guided, while developing his doctrine of truth. It is argued that the characteristic feature of Brentano’s doctrine is radical empiricism at the heart of which the intention to avoid hypotheses lies. This basic intention defines all other critical principles which were based on its doctrine and which led Brentano to the reism: anti-reductionism, anti-representationism, anti-psychologism and anti-scepticism. His criticism of the classical concept of truth is discussed.
